Stanley Schlosnagle, Agricultural Tech Supervisor, supervises the Analytical Lab, which offers support for researchers affiliated with the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. The lab provides a soil prep room that includes grinders, mills and sieves for preparing soils for analyses. Carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen concentrations are determined in soil and plant tissue; and nitrate concentrations in water, soil and corn-stalk tissue. The lab’s resources include a 600º C mechanical convection oven. The lab’s best kept secret is its inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometer (ICP-OES). Stan is involved in field trials that concern crop rotations, N-rates and surface runoff.
